This is one of the most thought-provoking book I’ve read. 1948, and the Abulheja family are among the Palestinians displaced from their homes to make way for the new state of Israel. As years go by, and war and oppression take their toll, the family is torn apart and left to rebuild their lives again and again.

For some, the past is suppressed, for others, it ignites the flames that have led to the awful maelstrom that is the Middle East.

This is a story with ho happy ending. Disquieting, discomforting, it is written with passion and honesty, and poetry. But is a story that needs telling, and should be read.
